Description

The clients for this project came to us with a desire to expand and refresh their dated midcentury split-level home while also incorporating Vastu design principals to help guide us in program orientation and arrangement. As this style of building is very common to the area we were excited to see what we could create to compliment the existing massing.

A series of design iterations led us to a contemporary gable form that wouldn’t clash with the existing home and would also provide visual interest in its simplicity. Since split-level homes have the majority of the living space on the second floor we took the opportunity to create covered outdoor space below the new program elements extending the outdoor season for the family. A general refresh of the exterior palate helps to tie the new and old structures together.

The interior palate was kept neutral and contemporary with a focus on creating expansive spaces with high ceilings and maximizing the natural light each room received.
