Project Type

Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit (DADU)

Description

This project started as a storage garage / pottery studio for the previous owners. Our client was looking to transform the existing shed into a new home for their mother that could be close to their home but also provide them with their own separate space.

One of the challenges for this space was that it would be downsize from the mothers previous home, we addressed this by expanding the living space into an outdoor covered “living room”, providing high ceilings throughout (9’) and the use of large glazing. By providing some visual screening we were able to make the outdoor space feel a little more private without removing light or breezes from the space. We share an affinity for cooking with the clients mother and were able to provide an expansive kitchen that doubles as a seating space for hosing friends and grandchildren.

This project was self built by the owner and the care and they took on the build shines through.
